Summary: Mama is a horror film about two girls who disappear in the woods the day their parents arekilled. They go to live with their uncle after being found but they’re not alone.
The film directed by Andres Muschietti is based on Muschietti’s 2008 Spanish-language short film of the same title name which follows a similar storyline to that of Mama.
Mama tells the mysterious tale of two girls who get lost in the woods on the day their parents are killed. Rescued a couple of years later they go to live with their uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) who lives with his goth girlfriend (Jessica Chastain). The sisters are semi-feral and scuttle round on all fours like frightened animals due to having no contact with humans for the past few years, but they are certainly not alone.

The film is well put together and Jessica Chastain’s acting is a huge improvement on her role in “Zero Dark 30”. Here she discovers her character has maternal feelings that she never knew of as she is forced to look after the children.

This is definitely a well worked horror film which is sure to make you jump and is ideal for those who like to watch the horror/thriller genre. I would certainly not recommend this to those who are easily frightened – you might find yourself questioning the shadows and sudden noises you hear for the next couple of weeks.
